What makes Harmony Hollow chimes so good...
How the brass is prepared and mounted, and the
cording.
Brass:
- At the nodal points (the area of a vibrating
tube where there is no vibration) the suspension holes are drilled into the
tubes and rods. This results in the cords not dampening the sounds and the
tubes don't slowly eat into the cord.
- All Harmony Hollow chime tubes and rods are
deburred, removing any sharp edges where the cord passes through the tube.
Cord:
- Besides the deburring of the tubes and rods
which protect the cord, many other cord protection measures are taken.
- Harmony Hollow Chimes uses non-slip knots, and
then weld the knots together with a hot knife.
- All chime cord is specially custom-made for
Harmony Hollow consisting of an inert polypropylene that is totally
resistant to mold, mildew, or rot.
- The cord is not affected by acids, including
acid rain.
- To prevent cracking from sunlight, just the
right amount of ultraviolet inhibitor is used in the cord.
- For abrasion resistance, there's also a
strengthened core with a tightly woven outer sheath.
With the many precautions Harmony Hollow Chimes
takes, the cord becomes virtually indestructible.
The same company that makes cord for Harmony Hollow
Chimes makes the same type of cord used by the US Coast Guard for their life
preservers and life rafts. Slightly different cord diameters and Harmony
Hollow's better abrasion resistance are the only differences.
